Eligible beneficiaries receive electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards. 

These can be used to purchase food items at authorized retailers such as grocery stores, farmers markets, and co-op food programs.

To qualify for SNAP benefits, individuals and families must meet specific eligibility criteria.

These criteria vary by state but generally consider factors such as:
  • income
  • assets
  • household size
  • citizenship status
Applicants with incomes below the federal poverty level are typically eligible.

The application process involves:
  • submitting an application form
  • providing relevant documentation (such as proof of income and identification)
  • participating in an interview
The interview is conducted to verify information, clarify any details, and ensure that applicants understand the program's requirements.

Note that SNAP benefits are not considered taxable income and do not impact eligibility for other assistance programs like Medicaid or TANF.

iii) SNAP-Ed
